RSS Feed: "Wireless Europe Analysis"

The South Korean operator SK Telecom has joined forces with the Chinese government to develop TD-SCDMA technology. The two parties will establish a joint TD-SCDMA service-development centre to further the commercialization of the technology.
Located in Bundang, Korea, the centre will focus on TD-SCDMA technology and services.
Two months after announcing that it will merge with ADC Telecommunications, Andrew Corporation has backed out of the deal, citing shareholder disapproval with the merger. Andrew will pay ADC $10 m to excuse itself from an agreement signed in May 2006 and further penalties could be imposed if Andrew merges with a third party within the next year.
Nokia Siemens Networks has revealed its business plans in anticipation of the January 2007 launch of the joint-venture company. The company will be organized into six global business units called Services; Radio Access; Service Core and Application; Operation Support Systems; Broadband Access; and IP Networking and Transport.
Revenue from the sale of cellular base-station equipment will peak this year and then drop sharply until at least until 2011, claims a report from analyst firm In-Stat. The report "Base Station 5-Year Forecast 2005–2011" also predicts that the public deployment of other wireless technologies such as WiFi and WiMAX will put increasing pressure on cellular technologies.
