Thirty national titles were awarded on Wednesday during the time trial portion of the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships. Over 400 racers from the ages of 30 to 86 lined up to contest the rolling out-and-back course in Taylorsville, Ky. Racing continues tomorrow with the womenandrsquo;s criterium contests inside the legendary Churchill Downs.
The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships continued with the womenandrsquo;s 30-59 criterium contests on Thursday. This yearandrsquo;s races were set inside historic Churchill Downs on a flat, half mile course with only four distinct turns. Several exciting contests highlighted the day and resulted in multiple national title for several of the participants. Racing will continue tomorrow with the womenandrsquo;s 60+ and menandrsquo;s 50-70+ criterium contests.
The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships continued with the womenandrsquo;s 70+ and menandrsquo;s 50-75+ criterium contests on Friday. Ten more Stars-and-Stripes jerseys were earned on the half-mile sprinter-friendly course. The final day of racing will go off at 10:00 a.m. on July 4 at Churchill Downs and will feature the 30-49 menandrsquo;s criterium races.
The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships wrapped up with the menandrsquo;s 30-49 criterium contests on a wet Fourth of July. The final four masters road Stars-and-Stripes jerseys were awarded following fierce battles on the half-mile course around the infamous infield at Churchill Downs. In all nearly 1,000 competitors age 30 and over fought for national titles in the road race, time trial and criterium over the last week in Louisville. Masters racers will now turn their attention to the USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships set for Aug. 18-23 in Colorado Springs.
The application deadline is quickly approaching for the 2009 USA Cycling Boys 15/16 European Race Camp program. All applications must be received no later than midnight PST on June 26th. The camp, tentatively slated for August 3-25, will be based at the U.S. National Team House in Izegem, Belgium and will give participants valuable exposure to the European race scene.
USA Cycling and the American Cycling Association (ACA) recently executed an updated Reciprocity Agreement for 2009. The agreement aims to provide the best cycling experience for the riders in both organizations by honoring equivalent ability categories within each organization. The agreement, which expires December 31, 2009, outlines in detail the conditions for which each organization will work together for the mutual benefit of the riders.
Shawn Milne took the win in the second race on the USA Cycling Professional Tour, the U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic in Arlington, Va. on May 31. The former USA Cycling National Development Team member outsprinted a group of four to the line to take the victory in Arlington, Va. With two of eight events on the USA Cycling Pro Tour complete, Levi Leipheimer and his Kazakhstanian-based Astana squad hold on to the early lead in the USA Cycling ProTour rankings. The next event on the USA Cycling Professional Tour will be the TD Bank Philadelphia International Championship in Philadelphia, Pa. on June 7.
Four junior cyclists secured automatic nominations over the weekend to the U.S. National Team for the 2009 UCI Road and Time Trial World Championships: Nathan Brown, Lawson Craddock, Kendall Ryan, and Coryn Rivera. The May 30-31 Soto Classic in Nashville, Tenn. served as the 2009 UCI Junior Road and Time Trial World Championship U.S. trials, awarding a nomination to the male and female winners of the 17-18 road race and time trial events.
Competing against riders from 24 different teams, USA Cycling Junior National Development Team program riders Nathan Brown, Adam Leibovitz and Lawson Craddock swept the prologue podium at le Tour du Pays de Vaud in Switzerland on June 4th. Brown posted a time of 3:49 over the three-kilometer course, besting his teammates by two seconds. The 2.1-rated, four-stage junior race will continue through June 7.
Registration for the 2009 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships, slated for June 28-July 4 in Louisville, Ky. is available at Sports Base Online through 12:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday, June 21st. Members are encouraged to register now to avoid a late online registration fee increase of $25 per event that takes effect on June 7th.
