At Your Service: Late last winter I decided I needed a backup heat source for power outages. I live on propane and asked around about ventless propane heaters. I was told Glo-Warm units were made in the U.S., so I went online and found a place called Master Distributors. I picked out a model and placed the order. The salesperson told me that I needed a larger unit than the model I had selected, and that I needed a blue flame unit instead of infrared.
I locked my keys in my car on May 19. I looked in the Yellow Pages for a locksmith and found Dependable Locks, which advertised “Low Prices.”
Whole Foods Market Inc., which recalled 48,000 pounds of possibly tainted ground beef last week, said it was checking all meat deliveries to ensure they were from processors approved by the retailer. The recall covered stores in at least 23 states, including Missouri but not Kansas.
I opened an account with QuikTrip in 2007 to get a rebate on gas. QuikTrip quickly sent me a credit card with a $400 limit. The rebate required a $500 purchase over five billing periods. I reached the $400 limit during the first billing. QuikTrip would not or did not send me a statement, so I could not buy more gas. Someone called me to ask for my address, which I provided. When I still didn’t get a statement, I called and changed my address to my post office box.

A local air-conditioning company checked our air conditioner and found nothing wrong, just a little bit of dirt that plugged the drain hose. They cleaned it, but it’s still dripping. They also added a pound of Freon for $37. I was surprised the bill totaled more than $150. People should make sure that they double-check the company’s prices before agreeing to service. — M.G., Olathe

I needed party rental equipment for my wedding. I found this great-looking Web site for Celebration Party Rentals in Lee’s Summit. I placed my order over the phone, gave them my credit card and paid my bill. I received 11 tables, 72 chairs but only eight plates, knives and forks. Celebration quickly corrected the issue.
