Recent tornado events in New York and Florida have people wondering if there are more tornadoes this year than in other years. Tornadoes are downright expected in locations throughout tornado alley. Does this mean that news-making tornadoes outside tornado alley are increasing? The short answer is no. The average number of tornadoes this year are actually normal.
Locations across the United States have their own unique tornado season. Normally, by 22 June, more than 60% of the median 1290 tornadoes per year have occurred.
