Saying that Messengers 2: The Scarecrow has an overly familiar conept might make you think that the well-worn template is The Messengers, but in fact this sequel (or rather, prequel) is a rather blatant rehash of, of all things, The Shining. Read the painful details in my review of Messengers 2: The Scarecrow.

Despite lackluster box office returns for the 2009 edition, the After Dark Horrorfest (8 Films to Die For) is returning for a fourth run on January 29, 2010. After Dark Films announced today that the first movie in the lineup will be The Graves, the debut directorial effort from comic book writer Brian Pulido. The semi-official synopsis:
Two inseparable sisters, Megan and Abby Graves, are taking one last wild road trip before Megan has to start a new job. The journey includes a trip through remote Arizona in search of a kitchy roadside attraction. Instead, Megan and Abby happen on Skull City Mine, a weather-beaten, abandoned mine town converted into a self-guided tour. What seems like a fun day in the sun turns into a mind-bending fight for survival against menaces both human and supernatural.
Horror stalwarts Tony Todd and Bill Moseley will be featured in the film (though not as the two sisters).

OK, I might have a new choice for my "most anticipated film of 2009"; behold Zombieland! This "zombie comedy" looks like falls in line with past greats Shaun of the Dead and Fido, with a cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray and...Abigail Breslin? Check out the trailer for Zombieland, which opens on October 9.
