In some religions, the idea is: do as many good works as you can. At your judgment, you hope the good works outweigh the bad. Believers can rejoice that Jesus bestows His personal righteousness as a gift on those who are His. God sees our sins through the perfection of His Son, and can legally declare us as righteous as He is. This stops the devil in his tracks.
